Gelcoat restoration is the process of removing the hazy, chalky oxidation that comes from the breakdown of gelcoat surfaces due to exposure to salt water and harsh UV rays.
The process of restoring gelcoat can include wet sanding, buffing with a heavy cut compound using a variable speed buffer and wool pad, and finally hand coating with a cleaner wax, paste wax, or ceramic coating
In the most severe cases, gelcoat must be wet sanded to remove oxidation and restore a workable amount of luster. Wet sanding brings a surface to the point that it can be treated with heavy duty compound.
If only a moderate amount of oxidation is present, the surface can be buffed with heavy duty or medium cut compound or polish using a high speed buffer equipped with a wool buffing pad.
After the surface has reached a high gloss, it is ready for the protective layer that will add to its shine and prevent further damage from the salt and sun.
Craft Clean Services, LLC offer wax services and ceramic coating as a final step in this process.
One Time wash and wax services are offered, however, taking part in a routine subscription wash service is the best way to maintain the life of your boat!
Wax and Ceramic coating services vary in price based on the amount of luster or the severity of the oxidation on a boat's surfaces. The state of the gelcoat surfaces determine the number of passes over the surface with compound/polish before the final protective coatings can be applied.
All Wax/Ceramic coating job estimates will be written up and emailed after having inspected the boat in person.
